Diet
Although parrot fish are considered to be herbivores they can eat many different reef organisms. The green Hump head parrot fish eat coral polyps. The parrot fishes main diet is marine algae. The parrot fish feeding activity is very important because they can help stop algae from choking the coral. Also when the parrot fish scrape at the coral they digest bits of rock. However when they excrete it, it will come out as sand thus helping create small islands and sandy beaches. One parrot fish can produce 90 kilograms of sand each year.
